This doesn’t seem like a real world review because usually you would have multiple clips. So can we really tell if the M1 can handle it? No is going to put one clip on when editing a video.

Old enough to remember when Adobe used to brag about the Mercury Playback Engine

Hi Max! Thank you for sharing this video. Hos much RAM is it in your tested MBP in this video? 16 GB?

7:30 And that’s why I’ve moved away from that garbage some call Adobe Premiere and switched to Final Cut (and now occasionally Resolve). I don’t know how they’re still in business when this is the quality and performance of their software. Frankly at this point it’s beyond embarrassing, Adobe’s CEO should’ve fired all of their useless programmers and resigned like 2 times by now.
Great video as usual, very informative, thank you a lot!

Surprised you made no mention that the A1's 8k is 420 10-bit while Canon's 8k is 422 10-bit. I would think that 420 would be easier to edit than 422. With that said, most people (inc. myself) really don't need/care if it's 420 as long as it is 10-bit. I wish Canon gave the option to shoot 420 H.265 as Sony does it would probably be easier to edit. Thanks for the test Max.

I love how Macbook and iPhone are integrated together. I love how easy it is to pair your headphones to the Mac.

At end any 4k footage that you throw on that M1 he will slice through it with ease?

@ 4:48 Actually a higher bitrate makes it easier to handle for the pc and not tougher because you have the same data in a less compressed file.

Max! What app or extension are you using to monitor the CPU and GPU usage in the Toolbar?

If the A1 still allows simultaneous proxy recording I would probably just use a proxy edit workflow for the rare instance i will need 8K rather than upgrade. FCPX new proxy workflow is great.

The most amazing thing is that the base M1 Air is perfectly capable to handle this as well.

Impressive! I'm curious - Will it perform the same way on the Mac Mini with the M1 chip?

Honestly I dont know what id do without you....and I make dope tech Videos myself😂...Thanks Max! I was Worried my 2080ti or M1 Wouldn't be able to handle my 8K Alpha 1 Footage..

I now can empty out my 401k With Confidence 😜.

Great video bro, so would you say final cut will run smoothly even with Sony a7IV footage at 4k 60fps 10bit?

Gotta love Final Cut Pro. <3
Switched from Premiere to FCPX two years ago - and I love it. Super stable and super fast on my 15-inch. On my daughters M1 Air though, FCPX is ridiculously fast - even startup time is 4 times faster than on my - not slow - 15-inch... Wroooom.
