Math Rock Guitar Essentials - A Guitarist's Guide to Math Rock & Midwest Emo

Hi there, Steve here. In this video, I show you a common chord trick that the band Delta Sleep often uses. This trick is essentially borrowing the bIII and bVI chords from a parallel minor key.

Thank you for not making a 20 minute long video "The Secret Chord Trick You Need to Know". Short and to the point 10/10.

Soft sounds so soothing
Something that sits so deep in the back of your head, while your asleep.
I caught you running for something so far away
Knowing you could not stay forever

Apart from the cool tricks, I really dig the amount of bands that I find out about from this channel.

When you hit that Emaj7 at 0:26 that tone is immaculate, help your boy out with some insight how to get on that

The bVI chord is also used a lot after the vi in prog metal/djent like periphery, plini, etc. I use it a lot, nice to see bands using it in mathrock too!

Hey Steve, Great video! Out of curiosity what Amp is that? I've been looking for a small amp for my apartment and that tone you're getting sounds pretty nice.
