Fathers and Daughters is a love story between a father and daughter living in New York City. The story moves back and forth between the 1980’s where Jake Davis, a Pulitzer-winning novelist and widower, struggles with mental illness as he tries to raise his 5-year old daughter, Katie, and 30-year-old Katie’s life in present-day Manhattan where she battles the demons that stem from her troubled childhood.
“Fathers and Daughters” is a film directed by Gabriele Muccino, who previously directed such films as “The Pursuit of Happyness”, “Seven Pounds” and “Playing for Keeps.” The film follows the relationship between Jake Davis, a Pulitzer winning novelist, and his daughter, Katie, and the effect of this relationship over a twenty year period. Moving back and forth between the 1980’s and present day, it shows Jake’s struggle with his mental illness and raising Katie, and explores the ramifications of 30-year-old Katie’s troubled childhood. The film is a drama, depicting a strong relationship between father and daughter, both battling their own demons.
