This video answers the question: Can I offer a critique of the Dissociative Identity Disorder Switching Video by Trisha Paytas? Can I critique the DissociaDID channel?

Dissociative identity disorder is an official mental disorder in the DSM and the criteria for DID are listed there. We see a disruption of identity characterized by two or more distinct personality states (in some cultures these distinct personality states may be referred to as possession), we see a marked discontinuity of self and alterations in affect, behavior, consciousness, memory, perception, cognition, and sensory motor functions. These different personality states may be observed by other individuals and reported to the individual who has this disorder. We also see recurrent gaps in recall of everyday events, personal information, or traumatic events. These gaps in recall can't be attributed to normal forgetfulness. There must be clinically significant distress or impairment and it cannot be a normal part of cultural or religious practices, substance use, or a medical condition. The prevalence of dissociative identity disorder is thought to be between 1 and 1.6% of the general population. We know that this particular disorder is associated with a great deal of comorbidity, meaning it tends to co-occur with other mental disorders like borderline personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, somatic symptom disorder, eating disorders, sleep disorders, conversion disorder, and substance use disorder. Also, self-harm behaviors and suicidal behaviors have been associated with dissociative identity disorder.

“I’m accustomed to educational content, and Trisha Paytas does not qualify” 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Dr Grande: "She mentions that two of her alters have all but died, and I was wondering did they die from embarrassment? Seems like a realistic explanation..."
The most polite burn I have ever witnessed.
Subbing for life.

*compares Trisha’s content to the radiation at chernobyl* “I’m not saying she’s bad or anything like that” 💀💀💀

my therapist told me that dissociative disorder usually arises in folks who have endured severe SEVERE early childhood abuse...so it's depressing that someone would turn it into some form of low based entertainment for the masses (looking at you Trisha).

“Did they die of embarrassment? From making this video?”

DR GRANDE.. YOUR HUMOR 😚👌🏻

It’s worth noting that Trisha’s kid “alter” (take those quotation marks as you will...) copied what one of Nin’s littles said in Anthony Padilla’s video. Anthony’s video and its popularity being the reason Trish made her first video.

He was feeling a little sassy in this one. His Chernobyl analogy was humorous.

“Did they die of embarrassment” I don’t know if this video was meant to be funny but you sir are my hero. With everything going on in this world I needed this dry humor. I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard in quite some time.

mention: when trisha’s ‘child alter’ fronted, she literally copied some of what nin’s little alter said in anthony padilla’s interview (which is extremely disrespectful in several ways: nin and her system deliberately do not share info on their littles, for safety reasons.)

I have been following Nin for a long time, and seeing her so hurt by Trish’s video really affected me too, she is 100% right when she said that Trish’s video is really damaging to the DID community. I’m glad you did that video!

This is why Trisha is exhausting: She accuses this young woman Nin of trying to make money off of Trisha's video, when I'm quite sure it was explained that Nin only heard about the video because Trisha used her, by name, as an example of someone with DID - *and called her crazy* - in her video exploiting the diagnosis for money. Trisha's best argument of experiencing altered states is that her own brain cannot handle how exhausting, contradicting and repulsive her behavior is.

nin didn’t say that she was faking she literally said that she’s not going to accuse her of anything except being ignorant and spreading wrong information. Trisha’s really gonna act like the victim when she mentioned nin first and actually called her crazy???? Which really triggered nin

Doctor, your ability to throw honest, irrefutable, witty shade whilst being polite and dignified is masterful. Masterful.

I have to say- my mom has DID... and the idea of "switching" so often- or on command- is ludicrous. My mom would often stay with one alter for days at a time- making her life (and those around her) very difficult. She was unable to ever have a job. She could not remember days at a time. She would "wake up" after switching and think that strange alternate timelines had occurred.

These videos are so upsetting to watch. Honestly- I don't (personally) know a single person undergoing treatment that would want to make a video of what their life is like alternating between alternates. I don't know how this disk became "sexy", but I promise you... it is not. Not at all. It's not seem to wake up in the middle of the night and have your mother thinking you had died or been taken. It's not seem to watch her having seizures at the bus stop due to psychotropic medications used to "control" her illnesses. It's not sexy to watch her stealing and know that it's not right, but there's nothing you can do about it. It's not sexy to grow up knowing that this is as good as it gets for her.

To those of you faking- you're doing so much damage, so much disservice to the people really facing this disorder.
