Garrett Pro Pointer Review

Review of a Garrett Pro Pointer which I use for metal detecting. I didn't realise how slow digging a target could be until I got this pointer. Now finds are located easily and the risk of damage to a valuable target is much reduced.
Note to self: It is only useful when it is switched on.
I made a mess of the first dig but decided to leave that part in to show how frustrating digging a target can be without a pointer (or with a pointer which you have switched off and forgotten to switch back on)
Overall: 10 out of 10.
I really can't imagine being out detecting without this hyper useful tool.

I've done the 'off' detector thing too. Thats why I like my etrac as there is always an audible background 'hum' which cn be altered depending on hearing ability of the user. Without that on some of the sites I go on I wouldn't know if the machine was working as there aren't many signals way up in the hills.
Thanks for watching, man.

No worries, man. I don't mind making myself look like a fool if I deserve to.

You made me start my morning with a good laugh when you said "it helps if you had it switched on" thanks

You were fun to watch. I, too, enjoy the time saving element that the Garrett Pro pointer brought to my hunts. It crazy, but the Pro pointer will throw out a warning signal when the battery is almost done. I love this tool. It saves so much time when I turn it on.

Having a pinpointer really speeds the recovery of targets up.

My only tip would be only hunt on land you have permission on - day or night. Having a backlit screen on the Etrac really helps as it doesn't matter if it is dark - I can still identify the target. The light on the propointer helps too but it could do with being a bit brighter. Minelab are relaeasing a pointer soon so I will be interested to see what it is like.

Your Channel inspired me to pick up a delta 4000 and I just ordered this pointer as well. I experienced all the annoyances of not having a pointer while detecting. Your advice on getting a quality pointer has been received.

Not sure if you watched the video, man but I explain that I'm using the big stupid spade because I have forgot my small detecting spade. Recently detected around a mansion and church on lawns recovering coins down to around 12" and left no trace. No chance of doing that with a screwdriver which may be OK for very recently dropped finds in a park but to get down to the old stuff a spade is needed as a small tool would make a hell of a mess hacking away at the turf. Old finds are deep in the UK.

That is just the ordinary coil which comes with the Etrac but I often use a 18" x 15" SEF coil for pasture as I can get much deeper and cover more ground with that large coil. You'll see that on most of my other videos and there may be a review of it in the metal detecting playlist. I wouldn't be without it as I can pull coins up from areas that have been hammered with other detectors which don't go as deep.

My neighbor lent me this! It is LITERALLY a pin pointer!
I’ve just began metal detecting since last year... it works great as long as it’s within about 2-3 inches from target! Just tested this today at our play park!
To ADD: CLEAN IT OFF! (As poster stated) It WILL give false leads when not cleaned off... vibrate or beep unnecessarily.

If we cant laugh at ourselves....Excellent you made the video worth watching! Most people would have edited that bit out but I am glad you left it in.

In parks, I find that most of the targets are very shallow and a quick sweep over the surface with the propointer does the trick. In deep pasture land, the majority of the targets I dig are between 8"-10" so I just start digging and go off the depth reading on the etrac.

Good video. With a bit of good humor involved. I own a ProPointer and love it. It is an indispensable part of my gear. I have owned a Vibra Probe, White's Bullseye and and AutoMax, and I can certainly say that the ProPointer is the best one yet. Cheers!

You have to remember that I'm in Northern England and if it isn't raining, its going to. Soon.
I must have dug hundreds of holes and they all look sweet .
I was worried about a few that i dug on a mansion house lawn and outside a church and was going to go with a backpack full of water, then we had 2 weeks of rain. Job done.
Hallelujah!

More coverage and depth from a big coil is always good for pasture as an extra few inches depth can make dead sites produce again.

Only minor point is that if you use very cheap batteries the machine can freak out a bit. Not sure why that is - maybe reduced voltage? but I always use semi decent batteries and it has been fine. It looks about knackered now but still working fine.
