But at least the compiler infers the result type correctly. The guy will be much happier when you tell him that he can define his own + operator for any data type he makes, also for data types he doesn't own :}

wait but isn't that how most languages do it as well ? in the first case the char gets converted to int as it's higher in the hierarchical and in the second it's treated as concatenation of 2 strings
