Knights of the Round (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Capcom's 1994 beat 'em up for the Super Nintendo, Knights of the Round.

Played through as Percival on the hard difficulty level.

This is a pretty stellar conversion of the arcade game. It looks and sounds great, and it plays like a costumed, ye olde England retake of Final Fight with an RPG-style experience leveling system thrown into the mix. It ditches the grapple system, and replaces it with commands for a power strike and a block like in King of Dragons. If an enemy attack is successfully blocked, you're granted a couple seconds of invincibility, so fighting requires a bit more strategy than moving slightly up or down to get out of the way. And you occasionally get to ride on a horse, which I thought was pretty neat.

The graphics are really well done. The character sprites are smaller and the backgrounds have some details and color missing from the arcade version, but you probably won't notice unless you compare them side-by-side. The sound is excellent, too. The tunes all have a fun fantasy style going for them, and I love the big trumpet fanfares - they suit the Camelot theme perfectly. The music is on par with the arcade's - the instrumentation is a bit thinner, but the sampled instruments often sound richer than the original game's FM ones.

I remember when this came out thinking just how unfortunate it was that Capcom released both this and King of Dragons in the same month. Rather than being treated as entirely separate releases by the magazines, they got lumped together and criticized with mediocre ratings - well below what Nintendo Power and GamePro tended to rate most of Capcom's SNES games. Maybe they wouldn't have been met by such a lukewarm response if Capcom had promoted them more and released them a couple months apart from one another.

If you like beat 'em ups, Knights of the Round is a great port of a classic Capcom arcade brawler and well worth your attention.

This is one of my favorite Capcom SNES arcade ports. It stays extremely faithful the original, it has more depth than Final Fight, and it has a great soundtrack. Well worth tracking down if you like beat 'em ups!

It looks good. It’s a shame that it received bad criticism at the time of its release.
But i don’t understand what happened in 29:18. Why does he look like Stone Cold Steve Austin now ?
PS : i saw your gameplay of King of Dragons and it looks good too.

I picked up the arcade version of this with that arcade beat-em-up pack on the Switch. My kids love playing those games with me because they're not that hard to grasp, and you can beat them pretty quickly. It's a fun way to pass a rainy afternoon, if your kids can actually tolerate being around you still (mine are still both under 12).

I've always favored more agile, skilled-based characters in video games throughout my youth and in adulthood. However, way back in the 90s when I first played Knights of the Round on SNES (I had already played as Lancelot in the arcades), it was the first game to truly challenge that that by offering Percival as a playable character. I absolutely LOVE playing him and feel that he outclasses Lancelot and especially Arthur in every way.

While I still prefer fast, skill-based characters, every once in a while I find myself just needing to play a powerhouse like a Percival, a Siegfried, or an Astaroth. :)

A nice little beat em up. 1994 was a year where so many great games came out for the SNES. I have a lot of fond memories from that year riding my bike out to the local video store and finding something worth renting each week. This was one of those games. Might have made an underwhelming purchase but it's one hell of a weekend rental.

One I only own on PSP and PS2 Capcom compilations, the SNES version used to go for $25 right when I started collecting, but I never managed to see it in game shops around here that sold retro games. The Japanese version used to sell for cheaper, and is still cheaper than the US version, but is creeping up in price enough now where it's not worth what it sells for. The port is excellent, though a tad slower than the arcade version, but like King of Dragons, is a far better port than Captain Commando on the same console, and dare I say better than Magic Sword.

I have the arcade version of Knights of the Round on the PSP as part of Capcom Classics Collection Reload, and on Xbox One as Part of Capcom Beat'em Up Bundle.

OMG I love this game! You're been on a real roll giving us Mother 3, Wing Commander and now this. I always got a laugh at how everyone else eventually wore armor at level 3, except Percy the strong man. It's really nice they released this on the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle! Happy New Year to you, NintendoComplete!

The character select music reminds me Guile theme from Street Fighter 2.

Great port of an excellent Arcade game!.. That 150 quid price tag is rough tho. Better to enjoy this one on an Emulator.
