Fun fact #1: Bobinsky was involved in the cleanup of Chernobyl after the radioactive meltdown. That's why he's blue. Laika Studios even gave him a medal resembling the actual one awarded to the real liquidators.

Coraline is a stop-motion masterpiece! Really interesting fact...
Neil Gaiman, who wrote the original book, had the draft be read by his editor's daughter to see whether it was suitable for younger audiences. He was able to have it published on approval. Years later upon having an interview with the editor's daughter, it was revealed she lied to her mother about how it wasn't scary so she could see what happens next. If it wasn't for her, there would never have been a book or a movie!

One if my favorite things about this movie is Other mother's design at the end of the movie, just the way she looks, the weird needle hands, everything just makes it so unsettling but freaking awesome

17:04 I KNOW! Your're the first person that has pointed out how EXPENSIVE the gloves are!
I can't be mad at the mom not buying them for her...

Fun fact #2: in one room of the Other world, there are three frames on the wall featuring the silhouettes of three children. Anyone who rewatches the movie will recognize that they each match the shape of a ghost child. There's also a theory that the years on the taffy Spink and Forcible offer to Coraline are the years each child's soul was devoured by the Beldam.

Leo, you grasped what this movie was about PERFECTLY! The Beldam preys on children who feel neglected, alone, or unappreciated because they aren't protected by their parents' attention. Children who feel unappreciated and sad are more likely to fall for her world of gifts and wonders, without being cautious. She's called the Beldam (not sure how to spell it) because of paintings and a famous poem, La Belle Dame sans Merci-- The Beautiful Woman Without Mercy, about an inhuman cruel woman who lures men who love her to death. She sounds familiar, right, the Other Mother is beautiful, and gives you whatever you want, all the while stealing your lifeforce. Loved you video!

Fun fact #3: regarding the "welcome home" cake, the loops in the O's are an important detail. The double loop in an O allegedly means the writer is lying, so the Beldam was unconsciously telling Coraline that the Other world isn't home.

38:26 there is a reason, why cat disappeared. In original novel cat told, that there were multiple tiny holes to the alternative world, but Other Mother (or Beldame) knew only about one of them and could use only this one. This cat is not so simple, as it looks - it's older creature, than even Other Mother.

There's a lot more going on in the book. The tunnel for instance, is implied t be a creature in its own right. "Whatever that corridor was was older by far than the other mother. It was deep, and slow, and it knew that she was there . . ."

Yes!! This movie still freaks me tf out. You should check out the easter eggs in this film, it makes it a lot creepier. Like when the "other" dad was singing about Coraline he was warning Coraline the other mother was "watching" her.

This is one of the rare movies that was made from a book, that actually was as good as the book.

Finally someone who reacted to this movie and questioned if Coraline is in the right dimension at the end 😅

29:05 The other dad actually liked Coraline and wanted to help her like the other Wibey, but he was under the control of the Beldam. The other mother was controlling him and you can even hear him saying, “Sorry, mother making me.”

2:28 the thing with the stick is called “dowsing” . It’s based on an old tradition that claimed if you held out a forked stick and followed where it naturally tilted, it would lead you to water.

I was in my early 30s when this came out. My kids were toddlers at the time. I called a buddy who was into animation and dark stuff to come with. We had to look like fools in theater but we probably enjoyed it more than anyone in that place.

There is a theory (idk if true or fake) that states Coraline never escaped, and fell for Beldam's trap.
The origin of this theory comes from the last scene, Vermont the cat only has powers in the other world yet he disappeared on the billboard in real life? We also saw Beldam's ability to turn her eyes into human eyes as she wishes, which could be highly credible to make Coraline think she won by just keeping them on. Plus, it is believed that when Coraline threw the key down the well she basically gave it back to the other mother given that it really resembles the door's entrance. As stated, not sure if this theory is accurate but it is fun to think about, and makes the movie a bit more creepy.
