I am Cantonese and I don't understand how in this parallel universe Canton could not be part of China with a reason. Canton had no separatist tendencies under either the KMT or the Communists. (Canton was even the birthplace of the KMT and it is hard to believe that a KMT that won the civil war would lose it.) Don't tell me it was Vietnam that occupied those lands, even the independent state of Canton was not something Vietnam could challenge, let alone China.
