Shin Chan was literally the definition of my childhood, in hot summers my grandmother would give me ice cream and I'd eat it while watching shin chan and then go to sleep for the afternoon 😂

Idk if this would be helpful but ill just make it ;)
1. Wash the rice
2.Soak the white rice in water (4 hours or overnight, ur choice! Just rmb the rice has to be able to be crushed with fingers without putting effort after soaking)
3. Steam with any equipment thats meant for steaming (best if meant for rice)the soaked white rice with water until its cooked
4. Throw it into a mixer gracefully 😌 (a BLENDER is a different thing and it WONT WORK don’t misunderstand although it works similarly)<-info for kids who are watching lol
5.again throw a tiny slice of butter in the mixer gRaCEfULLy then let the mixer mix it until a dough is formed (about 40 mins)
6. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes (honestly the longer the chewier the rice cake would be I THINK but ur choice :D)
7. Cut the dough into different sizes or shapes (ur choice but pls cut it and dont just throw it into an oven)
8. Bake, grill or toast it until it *puffs* up (no exact time given)
9. Let it cool down first or else it wont be chewy ;)
10. Enjoy ur lil snack, also u can dip it in condense milk (according to Ms. Shi’s saying)

A random tip or suggestion
You might have a lot of slices of the not yet-baked rice cakes. Just bake, grill or toast the amount u will eat, and for the rest, put it in a tightly sealed container, put it in ur refrigerator (rmb to cut it first), so when u wanna eat it again, u can once again take the right amount of rice cakes then bake it ;)

Mochi can be eaten savory too! It tastes great with soy sauce and seaweed, the classic, but my favorite is お雑煮(ozōni), a dish that’s eaten typically for new years (I eat it year round😅). Ozoni is different for each family but my mumma makes a clear bonito broth based soup with komatsuna (mustard leaf). I like to wait until the crispy outside turns really melty and soft in the broth. So yeah, you can experiment with your mochi!
