In recent years, heatwaves have killed more people than any other major weather event. Just last week, scorching temperatures claimed lives in India and Pakistan. With more of such extreme weather conditions expected, countries are trying to better understand heat and find ways to cool their cities down. As CNA's Clara Lee finds out, Singapore might have a blueprint.

They cut down trees everywhere, develop green space, build higher and larger, everyone has AC to survive-it's an impossible situation unless they stop developing.

Singapore is unbelievably hot in the morning, it almost feels like desert. Night is more suitable for walking or outdoor activities in there.

Singapore has the blueprint? I would wanna see CNA conduct all their interviews outdoor after this

Tree planting alone will not reduce high temperatures. Singapore cars need to be fully EV by 2030 and huge reduction of hot air exhaust onto roads and streets. Fully solar panel on top of every covered walkway

I think the current path to cut down trees and forested areas left and right is great! Surely helps a lot.

The problem is that the waterways in city are open to the sun.

All the rivers of ancient times like nile river in Egypt would always be covered with big shady trees on the banks.

Water for ancient cities were always through underground tunnels.

Water being exposed to sun is causing heat.

I don’t know scientific reasons. Just my experience.

If you feel uncomfortably warm in Singapore, that means you are poor.

Heat waves are not only in cities.

Even villages and plains of India are boiling.

The heat island theory does not work in rural areas.

It is time to slap more carbon tax on large emitters and stop subsidizing energy bills. But Singaporeans can bet that PAP is not going to do it because they know it'll cost them votes if inflation persists. However, subsidizing energy bills encourage more use and would worsen climate change. PAP cannot achieve these two contradictory aims at the same time. Nevertheless, they'll lie to voters and promise both low inflation and climate action. Do not trust PAP. Do not vote PAP.
