⏩ Video Question: What other bands do you listen to that sound like Polyphia??

Polyphia just released a full band playthrough of neurotica today

Have you yet noticed how Tim uses the 3rd bar of every chorus as the “flex💪” bar? If you’re listening for it, it’s obvious and is super satisfying when you catch it in new songs they make.

The way Clay fills space with cymbal work rather than excessive fills is something a lot of drummers should take note of.

Especially with those low resonating stacks he’s got that give the trashy sound. Do a fill in them instead and it sounds miles better. And more fresh compared to most drummers who overuse Tom’s.

Luke Holland was the drummer that Collab with Clay to write the drums on this song and a few more from the new upcoming album, Luke is worth checking out.

Yes thank you! One of the only reactors I’ve seen highlight how genius the rest of the band is beyond the guitarists. the space and rhythm is so silky

Good news for "the boomer in you" (as you said) they did a version of the video of them just in the studio playing with all members. Sadly no Clay Aeschliman only version yet

Unprocessed is an amazing band whose guitarist Manuel Gardner Fernandes is an equal with Tim and Scott on guitar and as an added bonus he sings and screams too

Love seeing people fall into the Polyphia rabbit hole. Plini “electric sunrise” is a great tune in somewhat the same vein.

They make some really unique sounds, love it.

Just saw Polyphia in Charlotte at the Underground, Epic. Unprocessed is a band u should look at, Manuel Gardner Fernandes is the guitarist and vocalist for them, they are similar. They opened for them

Since you're such a fan of Clay's drum work, definitely check out Luke Holland if you haven't already. He collabed on the writing for the drums on this song. He has a song with Jason Richardson (phenomenal guitarist) that features Tim Henson called Upside Down. Definitely worth the look!

I know one band that is often thrown in when discussing Polyphia is Unprocessed. They have some fantastic tunes that are worth checking out. Manuel Gardner-Fernandez is an absurdly good guitarist.

Just saw Polyphia in Toronto (amazing show). They had a band called “unprocessed” open for them. They are from Germany but they have a similar style.

Thank you for using actual music vocab in your analysis! I've played flute for over 10 years and it bugs me when someone releases a "song breakdown" and proceeds to pause the song multiple times only to say "that part was great". Yes, I know it was great, I'm here for you to tell me something I don't know yet!

I'm not actively playing an instrument right now, but still trying to sharpen my ear. Polyphia and other bands with rhythmic complexity give me a lot to study. What you said about the drummer and bassist playing deep in the pocket gives me something specific to listen for next time :D

There are two other instrumental prog rock bands that I think fit most closely with Polyphia's style: Plini, and Intervals. Intervals actually had vocals on earlier albums but eventually went full instrumental. Plini is really where it's at though.

I TOTALLY agree about this band's rhythm section - these Feet of Clay(s) dance together like Fred and Ginger!

You may like to look at the intervals they don’t have the quite the same sound as polyphia but I do think they are a great band worth a look!

Hey Tony, gotta say I love your reactions. I started following you after you did the playing god reaction, and I really enjoy your genuine excitement as well as just overall insight.

You might enjoy Brann Dailor, the drummer for Mastodon. His playthrough of the song "Ghost of Karelia" on the MEINL channel is a great watch. His finesse on the kit as well as it's overall sound (especially the snare) are legendary.

The motions sickness is on purpose I think, the song is called Neurotica after all.
