NEW IDEA or NEW MOVE? You decide.

I couldn't decide if this was a New Idea on Old Moves video or if this qualified as an invention of a new Preparation step. What do you think?
No matter what I think the examination makes it a Science of Salsa

Hi Joe, great video! In The Netherlands we've been teaching this move for about 3 years by my count. I call it the 'Reverse Copa'. We teach it as a standard for the higher levels of salsa (on1 and on2). For dancing on1 in general (beginners level turns & CBL's), the prep for the follow is on the first 3 counts and the execution on the last 3. For the higher levels, the follow will prep and also execute during the first 3 counts. For a standard Copa (an action for the follow during the first 3 counts) the signal is on counts1 and 2. For the Reversed Copa it's on 3 and 4. The standard exit of the Copa is the follow changing direction and starting to travel AWAY from the lead on the 4th count. With a Reversed Copa the follow is also changing direction, but is now travelling TOWARDS the lead (half a spin on 4) before travelling away from the lead on count 5. For the Copa the lead can use only one hand and can choose to move forward. But for the Reversed Copa the lead has to use the whole body and also has to move forward in order for the follow to execute the move without any problems. So yes! It's a new kind of prep. I love the way you analysed it. Keep up the good work! Greetings from the salsero on Dutch wooden clogs :)

Hey Joe! I hadn't even paid attention to Terry do this move. I have been doing this move for a couple of years, seeing Super Mario do it a bunch of different ways and taking the concept from him (although I'm sure it's been done before him). I call it a redirection. Nice breakdown!

Thank you for breaking this move down! Ironically, I noticed that specific move myself recently and was planning on incorporating it into my dancing.

I've been dancing salsa18 years and have taught partnering on 2. I really believe that if I a follow keeps stepping and shifting weight on time the possibilities for leading her are infinite...by the way, I really enjoy these videos. There aren't many people I've come across in years of being on teams and taking workshops that break partnering down like this, either online or in person. Thanks!

I always forget I can lead a few variations on this lol. But it really depends on the follow. As the other poster stated, if the follow is weighted properly (and not taught by "cues", and is has tone and not floppy arms them even a single handed. Terry's version I would have more difficulty with at first lol.

If you watch the blond girl section very closely, (if counting on 1) she large steps on 8 out of her turn and rotates to her left into a Back Rock with her right foot on 1. If she didn't take that extra step on the 8 this move would not have happened. Not knocking it at all. Just an observation.
