Harvesting Black Walnuts for Seed - How to grow a walnut tree

Показать описание
In this video we'll be exploring black walnut trees as I document my own attempts to collect, inspect, test and walnuts for seed. We'll be going through when to collect your seed, what to look for and testing for seed viability.

I'm by no means a tree expert and would love to hear any thoughts/opinions/criticism of this content and the way in which I'm currently trying to gather seed and grow trees. My hope is that together we can build a resource that empowers others to grow their own trees. Thanks!

That is really a majestic tree ! I have never saw one here in the wild and I think it will not do well here either. Really impressed as it is the first time I saw what the fruit looks like when harvested as I only see the dried ones we get from the store. Thanks for sharing, well done and the good luck 😁

all walnuts have those little worms in them and most other type of nuts also have them there layed on the bloom were the nut is made and as the nut grows so do the litte worm they eat there way out that is wht=y the husk breaks down so easy they don't enter the nut it self

Do you need to freeze them for a few months before planting?

Super interesting and informative. I wonder what the soil is like around that big old tree? With all the naturally rotting and wormy pods falling year after year, I suspect it could be rich in nutrients - but stony too with hard walnut shells? I guess this is one kind of tree that isn’t ‘cherry-picked’ by hungry birds - those pods are huge and any marauding birds would need to have prehistoric jaws 🤣

Walnut trees fed the mountain people for years.

Bugs are NOT gross. They are important. They are the base of a food chain.
