Am 31. Mai 2022 haben Blasinstrumente die Wände des Bürgerhaus Stollwerck in Köln erschüttert, denn ein lautes Kollektiv aus Brooklyn gab sich die Ehre. Brass Against spielten Protestsongs von Rock-, Funk- und HipHop-Acts wie Living Colour, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Kendrick Lamar, Rage Against The Machine, Tool oder den Fugees.
Nachdem Brass Against schon bei ihrem letzten Deutschlandbesuch 2019 für Begeisterung gesorgt haben, sind sie nun endlich zurück. Rockpalast war dabei, als die US-Amerikaner das beliebte Bürgerzentrum im Kölner Süden rockten und ihre energiegeladene Show präsentierten.
Smarte Arrangements, glaubhafte Wut im Bauch und jede Menge Funk, Groove und musikalische Dynamik machen das Kollektiv aus Brooklyn zu weit mehr als einer Coverband mit Blasinstrumenten.
Brass Against ist ein Kollektiv aus Frauen und Männern unterschiedlicher Herkunft und unterschiedlichen Alters. Zu den Hauptmitgliedern gesellen sich immer wieder Gastsänger/innen, unter ihnen die charismatische und stimmgewaltige Sophia Urista, die auch mit der Band durch die Welt tourt.
Auf der Band-Website haben Brass Against ihre Motivation einmal wie folgt beschrieben: "In dieser politisch herausfordernden Ära ist es Zeit, gegen die Maschine aufzustehen." Gitarrist Brad Hammonds hat die Band gegründet, um "Protestmusik mit Blasinstrumenten zu erschaffen, die die Fans zum Handeln aufruft." Dann könnte der Ort ihres Kölner Auftritts wohl kaum passender gewählt sein.

Hab sie paar Tage später in München gesehen. Publikum ging noch mehr ab - einfach klasse. Hatte meinen 16-jährigen Sohn für sein erstes Konzert dabei. Ging nicht besser. War im Vorfeld etwas traurig, dass Sophia Urista nicht dabei war. Vollkommen unnötig. Liza Colby war kein Ersatz, sondern komplett Bestandteil der Truppe und hat geniale Show geliefert. Nächste Europa-Tour wieder dabei 🤟
