Textile Artist, Lesley Bell, explains how Scotland’s coastal landscape, maps & vintage textiles have influenced her work; and shares how it has evolved through her love of embroidery and slow dyeing with leaves & rust. Lesley was awarded the Quilters’ Guild City & Guild’s Student Bursary in 2018.

I LOVE this artist's work. I love her simplicity, of style and colour, and her ideology of slow-work. Obviously, everyone has their own opinion, but I don't think that a machine gives hardly any sense of a hand-crafted piece of work. I love the slowness of hand work that lets one muse and think about and around the work one is making. Most significant for me is that 'thread' [forgive the pun] with all our female predecessors who worked like this, even when simply embroidering a blouse collar for every day wear. Wonderful! Thank you very much for showing.
