Wouldn't it be easier to just chop the wav file into a loop and adjust semitones of each chop to taste?

Basically that form of sample editing it was known as Rex sampling probably originally best known in Reason DAW device called Dr Rex or Dr Octo Rex. This sort of sample chopping is something I do in most projects for Drums or melodies.
