Period homes have a charm that you can't replicate.
That's why we love them most

The pigeons made me cry; they are so beautiful flying around the house.

I live in a 1970s townhouse in Southern Ontario, Canada. We have a door in our kitchen going straight out into the yard - I love having the door open in the summer to hear the birds and let my cat come and go as he pleases. I also love our basement rec room - there is nothing more 70s than the basement being the party room of the house!

When I was a child, my parents had a little cottage they built themselves. It wasn't at all fancy, just a place to enjoy the summer months. My parents' room was next to mine and the two were connected by a closet with an open door on each side on opposite ends. Not exactly a doorway to Narnia, but I loved that closet with its clothes hanging down over my head. It was like entering a magic tunnel. I think it fed my childhood desire to one day live in a house with secret passages.

My home is Saxon yes 11th century. I love everything about it, ,,, the massive inglenook fireplace ...beams and quirky nooks and crannies everywhere was the village bakery so all the villages would have taken their bread to be baked there ....i could not imagine living anywhere so i guess i. will die here and leave it to my daughter and thereafter her daughter luckily they all love it especially at Christmas when it truly shines ..im very grateful to have stumbled across it nearly 30 years ago ...🏚️❤

Our home is an 1840s weavers cottage in Yorkshire. I could probably also fill a whole video with quirkiness 😅 but the main one has to be our double size third floor half of which is a flying freehold over the neighbouring house.

The third floor would have originally been a loom room where weavers from several of the neighbouring cottages worked. The space is now divided into two bedrooms and a 30ft double height living room, which always takes visitors by surprise in what would have originally been a two up two down cottage.

I love having our main living space tucked away upstairs away from everything else, it feels so peaceful. And it is quite a mindful act to take ourselves away from the kitchen downstairs which is definitely a "working" room to relax in the living room ☺️

I grew up in a two story house that was built in late 1800's for cotton mill workers. two rooms downstairs two bedrooms upstairs. The stairs were closed in but were in the kitchen, A pantry was in the kitchen under the stairs. No indoor bathrooms until much later.! Guess where they put them!! Yes enclosed some of the big porch and bathroom was right at the kitchen!! I loved that old house! They were duplex so mother and I lived in one side and grandmother and uncle lived in the other side! Great memories! Oh yes! we had a coal burning fireplace and a coal burning heater in the kitchen. Later gas lines were installed but I missed the fireplace so much! My grandmother not so much!!

I grew up in a house built in the 20’s. It was 2 stories built in a time without air conditioning. In Texas. My bedroom had 7 windows for great ventilation. We did have window unit ACs. But being able to have all the windows open on a mild day with a breeze blowing through was awesome.

My husband and I love your channel - we care for my 90 years old mother 24/7 since her stroke. She can't speak now and is bedbound but we watch your channel together and she's absorbed by each video from start to finish.
Your home is beautiful. Not just bricks and mortar but is food for the soul - absolutely radiates the peronalities and emotions of you and your mother but of all who have gone before, in the walls and in everything you have in it. What stories it holds!
Read this and weep Ikea. Oh, and we love chintz too.
Very well done Hannah. You have given my mum a lot of pleasure.

I live in a 1920 build house, I love the extra unnecessary space on the upper level landing, it is big enough for a couple chairs an table and a bookcase, the window looks out over the front and I can watch people going by.

We live in a 1940’s farmhouse and adore it. Our stairs also end in our kitchen. It’s the best seat in the house. The kids gather and chat at me while I cook and we all sit there to pop on our shoes before heading out our main door which is also in the kitchen.

After all those postives to your home, I kept thinking, you should never leave, what a darling place and the pigeons <3 I have lived in the same 1950s bungalow that we turned into more of a character home/cottage home for 23 years. It's very cozy, not at all perfect, and I love it.

Totally identify with some of these things. I had a 1840's home where the stairs started in the kitchen and it became a place to sit and chat whilst meals were being prepared, dishes were being washed.

I now lives a 1930's flat and I am lucky that it has lovely large windows and also a sun room. I don't have a fire place or a tv, so I have my arm chairs close to the window and the old iron radiators so I can take advantage of the views of my neighbourhood out of the window, whilst reading or watching videos on my laptop or just having a tea or coffee and watching the world go by. or if the weather is not too cold I sit in the sun room.
