How to Create a Running Header in InDesign

A running header or running head is an important editorial design element for catalogs, magazines, books and most long format documents. In this video I will show you how to set up a universal running header for a magazine in Adobe InDesign by using a Text Variable with a Character Style.

Hello, thank you for the great tutorial, I have applied a paragraph style for my chapter headings, but when I tried to create a running header out of it it is not adopting the character style of the running header. Any ideas as to why....

Thanks. I think I got it. But what if I want a different header for the opposite page? Like Title on the left-side page, Author Name on the right-side page.

How to you keep a [colour] highlighted word in one of those titles like you have with Creative Adventures being both black and grey?
Whenever I use the empty character style for Running Header it changes all those Character Style elements within the titles.
The fonts obviously stay because they're made in paragraph styles, but the special character elements obviously don't because it gets overridden by the running head character style
