Hinkley suffered from untreated schizophrenia. Ironically Ronald Reagan is a big reason so many long term psychiatric hospitals closed but Reagon did not pour money into alternatives as Kennedy had planned before his murder...therefore we now have no help for people like Hinkley unless they have aware educated parents or get into serious trouble with the law. Untreated, many people with brain illnesses can become delusional and hallucinating and eventually tricked into taking drugs and then become chronically homeless cause no one in society is looking out for them and there are not enough people going into psychiatry or careers to treat them as its usually low paying. Usually only people with someone close to them who gets schizophrenia ends up going into psychiatry field.

I was a schoolboy in Europe when the Reagan shooting occured. All TV channels were reporting this assassination, it just blewed my mind.

I played sick from school that day. 8th grade. Was watching TV with my mom and this breaks in. Remember it like it was yesterday. Scary day. And Hinckley was doing it for someone who would never be interested in a man.
