This is the last piece my band director is going to conduct at my school before he leaves. It makes me sad every time I listen to this piece because the piece was written about a boy who’s going off to war, maybe to never see his family again. The parallels between the two situations that were faced make this a rightful last piece for my director.

The intonation is just stunning and one of the best parts about the President’s Own. Just perfectly in tune. When it locks, the overtones just make you cry.

Oh Danny boy the pipes the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountain side
The summer's gone and all the flowers dying
'Tis you 'tis you must go and I must bide
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy oh Danny boy I love you so

But when ye come and all the roses falling
And I am dead as dead I well may be
Go out and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an ave there for me
And I will hear tho' soft you tread above me
And then my grave will warm and sweeter be
For you shall bend and tell me that you love me
And I will sleep in peace until you come to me

Remember 1916. Never forget that Easter Week.

The solo clarinet entrance at 2:38 is brutal to pull off to perfection and in tune. Obviously it was nailed here. This performance was utter perfection. If it doesn't move you, you're dead.

1:40 is officially one of my favorite chords I’ve ever heard played by any ensemble. When the bass note drops through the floor and the French Horns just sing above the rest of the Band. I could seriously listen to just that
chord all day.

Amazing. This is the best recording /performance of this that I've ever heard. The balance is unbelievable. The trumpet part is brutal on the chops. Difficult piece despite half notes and quarter notes.

I had the privilege to conduct this piece at a Veteran's Day memorial the year i graduated from HS. This piece will always have a place in my heart. Its gonna be the first piece I do when I become a music teacher.

The chord at 3:45 is just absolute perfection, the high trumpet is so open and dark, I'm not eve sure how it's possible to sound that beautiful(coming fro a trumpet player)It's perfectly balanced and in tune. Bravo!!!

I unexpectedly lost my Grandfather a little over a week ago. Needless to say, it's been hard. But there is a great comfort in this beautiful piece ❤‍🩹

Is there anything as aurally pleasing as a big wall of well tuned brass chords? Goosebumps!

I love the Euphonioum part such beautiful tone and phrasing, I once had this talent and let it all go. Just wished I believed in myself more, I could be sat in the exact same place these musicians are but as a British Army Bandsman much love xx

absolutely stunning! So balanced from top to bottom, but I really appreciated the quality of the lower voices and how strong they were!

This brings back memories when I had the opportunity to play this piece in high school. This performance brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful!

From a musical standpoint...the tempi are absolutely spot on. There is a 'sweet spot' for Irish Tune where the music actually 'sings'....here it is...the Golden Section...

I had the pleasure of attending this concert, and hearing Irish Tune live in Orchestra Hall was absolutely breathtaking. There will never be a better performance. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this, I was unaware it was being recorded.
