Sentience and Emotion in Animals — An explanation

Animal sentience is acknowledging that animals can have thoughts, feelings and emotions just like human-animals. Animals love and care for others, including their family, friends and offspring. The difference between human and animal sentience is the context. Where humans might wake up, check on their loved ones and decide whether to have cereal or toast for breakfast. Cows do the same thing; the only difference is what they choose to have for breakfast.
