Oprah Winfrey, who was raised by her grandmother, was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother.
Winfrey has spoken about experiencing significant hardship as a child, and the fact that she was raped at the age of 9 and became pregnant at 14 (her son died in infancy), and fell victim to alcohol and drug abuse at a young age.
When Winfrey was sent to live with her father in Tennessee, she found employment in the radio field while still in high school, and would began her journalism career working as a co-anchor for the local evening news at 19. This lead her to become North America’s only black billionaire.
She is now worth $2.9 billion.
The change and the way you look at life when everything is gray is up to you! When you fail at something (and in some point in your life you will), it's up to YOU if you'll stay on the ground and feel sorry for yourself, or you will stand up and wipe the dirt of your knees and FIGHT for what you believe. I was homeless once, my mother in law throw me out on the streets of Hollywood with my one year old daughter. I was sexually molested when I was 9 years old and bit up to death in the middle of my cancer treatments by my ex husband, I got fired from my job after 15 years of service. But I still think life is absolutely great, I met a wonderful man that loves me and together we build a trucking business we own 🚛 a semi truck with a refrigerated trailer and my life is just wonderful.
