This Squirrel Sleeps for 8 Months Straight! 🐿️💤🛏️

This little creature doesn’t know how to wake up once it lies down!

That’s because it spends 8 months of the year asleep. This is a ground squirrel, and what sets it apart from other squirrels is its ability to hibernate. But what really grabs attention are the incredible things it does while sleeping! It lowers its body temperature to -3 degrees Celsius and slows its heart rate to just 1 beat per minute. This way, it nearly shuts down its metabolism and survives on the fat it stored during summer for 8 whole months.

But if things go wrong, it can quickly raise its body temperature back to normal to save itself! And once it wakes up, the first thing it does is find a partner. After that, it spends 24 hours straight indoors with its newfound love!
