Nissan's Versa is no longer the least expensive car in America. Instead of targeting the most budget conscious shoppers on the market, Nissan is going after a more fickle shopper: the one looking for value. Does the Versa's long list of standard features and new-found good looks change the subcompact game in America? Let's find out.

Jatco CVT suck. But, idk about those new ones. I have a 16 Maxima S and it’s currently at 108k and it’s on its original trans. Maybe these new CVT’s aren’t as bad as they seem.

Despite people hating Nissan I love my 2019 Altima SR and my sis has 2017 SR with over 180k not a single problem

I remember when 9.5-13 seconds to 60 was average for a family car

Port injected 1.6 with a 5 speed manual sounds like a recipe for a decently reliable cheap car with proper maintenance. 👍🏻

I also note; they keep pushing the idea of value, but the reviewer's always get the top trim cars. The top trim cars are not the ones that make up the sales numbers

Price doesn’t matter if the CVT fails in 60, 000 miles

Great perspectives, I like carry on bag score, I like the logical comparison 0-60 to history, I like the raw cost mindset of actual production too

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the new Versa with the 5 speed manual transmission!
The price is right, and their manual trans will last forever.

How many people commenting on the CVT have actually driven one? Most of them are I heard this or I heard that.

I was considering a new car at the end of the year. I did call a Nissan dealer to check on Versa. The impression that I got was that it was not possible to buy a manual transmission Versa. I would only lease a CVT Versa. Nissan is offering great value in affordable cars, but they have a bad reputation with CVT reliability. But they were offering good lease deals but with too short mileage allowance. Unfortunately, my new car search ended when I got some insurance quotes.I live in a high cost area. I think the new Versa looks great.

Versa with 5 sp is very good and reliable basic transportation.
My first purchase of a brand new car was the 1980 Datsun (Nissan) 5 dr, 4 sp hatchback 310GX. It was very reliable and inexpensive.

Another balanced review and I always appreciate your comparison with similar vehicles. A friend just rented a 2020 Versa SR and I was impressed, given the price of the car. I am concerned about the long-term reliability of the CVT but I think this is a problem that Nissan has addressed. When looking at your review of the Hyundai Venue, you said you were disappointed in the noise level of the Versa but here you say that the car is quiet for the class. Not sure what to think. Or perhaps you were referring to the old Versa (2019?). My friend's Versa was not too noisy and the seats were quite good. I might prefer the Kicks and hope to do same day comparison drives of the Kicks, Kona, and Soul.

As someone who used to sell new Kias and Toyota’s. The Rio has typically been my top pick. Although it is a bit disappointing the only active safety tech available to it is Forward Collision warning / avoidance on the Rio. But it’s reliability and often lower msrp is nice. I really am impressed with the new Versa and all the tech and value it offers at just under $20K in the SR trim. But that long term reliability out of Nissans hasn’t been the best in the last 10-15 years, more so on their CVTs. I’m really intrigued at how the new generations of the Versa, Sentra and Altima hold up going into the new decade here. Especially now that Nissan’s whole sedan lineup isn’t dated and ancient anymore

The Versa is dead here in Canada. 2019 is the last model year

For looks, discount, and reliability, the Accent is the winner.
