When converting between units, write your starting unit of measurement on the left and your desired units on the right. 1000mL is equal to 1L
You can also move 501. ml over three decimal places to equal .501 L since 1000mL=1L

When performing dimensional analysis, you must consider all conversion factors. In the case of converting 501 mL to gallons, we know that 1000 mL is equal to 1 L. To set this equation up, we place 501 ml on the left side of the equal sign, and place the desired unit ( in this case, it is L) on the right side of the equal sign. 501 ml x (1L/1000 mL)= 0.501 L. We know that the conversion factor for L to gal is 1 gal= 3.79 L. We want to know the number of gals in 0.501 L of fluid therefore 0.501 L will go on the left side of the equal sign, and __ gal will go on the right side of the equal sign. 0.501L x (1 gal/ 3.79L)=.132 gal

Write what we begin with on the left and what we are trying to find on the right.
The conversion factor for 1 L is 1000 mL.
The original unit has to has divide the new unit so the original can cancel itself.

One liter is equal to a thousand milliliters. Write what we begin with on the left and what were trying to find on the right. Liters goes on the top in the equality and the 1000 goes on the bottom.
