I've been to a funeral for a fish. My friend had a pleco that lived to be 21. That was the first fish he ever got and he was so absolutely crushed when she passed. Whether it was "just a fish" or not, he loved her enough to keep upgrading his tanks until he had a 220 gallon just for her to be comfortable and healthy. He cared so much and I'm sure you cared for Nubbin too.
