Experts are warning of the rising threat of cryptocurrency fraud, after the scams rose by 23% last year. And today, we're joined by someone who knows just how dangerous they are. Lisa - whose identity we're protecting - invested in a scheme on social media, which she believed was backed by Martin Lewis. But things quickly spiralled - and before she knew it, scammers had stolen £40,000 from her account. Scared and too embarrassed to tell her friends and family, Lisa reached out to Trading Standards, where she was helped by scams officer Janet Quinn. They both join us this morning to share the shocking story, as well as their tips for protecting yourself.

She was talking to a scammer behind her husband’s back because she knew he wouldn’t approve. She has herself to blame.

Didnt tell her husband, because she KNEW what he'd say. He'd have stopped this immediately. Her fault tbh

It's sickening to mess with someone else's money. If I was her husband and found this out, I'd get a divorce. Stupidity can infect children.

We need some kind of internet safety training for older adults - perhaps in workplaces or something? - to prevent this from happening, because as a younger person who's grown up on the internet it feels obvious to me that these are scams, but clearly for some other people this isnt the case and we need to make sure theyre protected too !!!

An advert on social media is not a good place to get investment advice.
Also DON'T give a stranger access or control of your phone.

Oh my word! Why give control of your affairs to a stranger.

She must’ve been living under a rock not to know Martin Lewis doesn’t do adverts!! And to do that behind her husbands back - really? 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Whatever has happened to the old sayings of "If it sounds to good to be true then it's not" and "There's no such thing as free money"?

People of today need to relearn the sayings of previous generations. There's a lot of truth in them.

Martin lewis is constantly stating that he doesnot endorse any ads that claim to be backed by him, they are all fake. If she followed him, she'd know that.

Your first mistake was deceiving your husband, who if you had told him would of most likely used wisdom and told you not to do it.

I deal with scammers nearly every day on social media and it's crazy how many people fall for adverts that are very clearly a scam. It still surprises me how people can be so thick.

We've all been scammed in one way or another in our lives, whether that be by a criminal, a partner or a friend. She was obviously a very trusting lady. I'm glad her husband has supported her. Hope they get the money back from the bank.
