Romania Buys 32 F-35 Fighter Jets to Strengthen Their Air Power

The US State Department announced the approval of the sale of 32 F-35A fighters to Romania for approximately $7.2 billion. The deal includes Lockheed Martin fighter jets and F135 engines from Pratt & Whitney, including one spare engine. With this purchase, the Romanian air force, a NATO member, will get their first two F-35 squadrons, and plans to add 16 more aircraft for a third squadron. Romania will join Poland and the Czech Republic as Eastern European countries operating the F-35.
