"Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez denounced House Republicans’ efforts this week to ban trans people from using single-sex bathrooms in the U.S. Capitol building reserved for “individuals of that biological sex,” just weeks after the election of the first transgender member of Congress, Sarah McBride of Delaware.

In a video interview with Spectrum News on Wednesday, the New York progressive, known as AOC, described the policy as “disgusting.”

“If a woman doesn’t look woman enough to a Republican, they want to be able to inspect her genitals to use a bathroom?” asked Ocasio-Cortez. “No matter how you may feel about this issue, [you] should reject it completely.”"

Does Nancy Mace's bill specify the women's facilities? or could it be used to humiliate Republican men too?
"I'm sorry, you need to prove you're not a trans-man before you can use that restroom..."

As a transwoman from Germany, this is so infuriating for me, not only because it is so degrading, but also, it is so insanely stupid. And I just wanna point out one of the many glaring issues this idea of "transpeople are not allowed to use the bathroom" has (and I hardly hear anybody talk about):
There are transmen too. And, at least in my experience, they often pass much better than us transgirls. So, just imagine, every transperson would say, ok, I do as the Reps. want and go to the bathroom that is for biological sex I was born with.
That would end up with transmen (whos biological sex is of course still female), who look (in many cases) LIKE REGULAR GUYS!, walking into the womans bathroom or locker room or public toilet. How is this in any way logical if you claim that you want to protect women? It is just stupid.
Or how about transwoman who underwent surgery. Some surgeons are so good, you cant tell the difference.... or yes, this thing that cis-women and -girls are already being harrased because they "look trans/not girly enough". Gimme a break!

And what makes me even more mad:
Why is no one talking about that idea that, maybe, instead of "accepting" that opposing gender is a threat in itself, and men are dangerous (I mean, why else would women need a safe space from men?), we build a society where we just respect each other? No matter the gender? I know, I am being very idealistic again, but that is just how I tick 🏳‍🌈

Someone needs to point out that Trump's nominees are only qualified to be stupid.

AOC is absolutely right. What petty politics! Stay away from our bathrooms. Creepy and cruel.

A friend has alopecia so is bald and gets abused in public toilets at times even though she looks feminine in her face. I can't imagine how much worse this would be in US with this craziness going on.

And imagine being a trans women using a male bathroom. Do you think the men will accept that??

If this was about concern of sexual assault risk then why are they putting assaulters in high positions.

Nice distraction, however, I am still demanding that Congress release the "ethics" report on Matt Gaetz!

A couple of churches I go to have unisex bathrooms. I don’t think this issue is about morality or protecting anyone.

The only additional thing AOC should said is how this is also a distraction from all the other issues with the GOP including their cabinet selections.

I've been using public bathrooms for 70 yrs. I've never had an issue. It almost like this is just another distraction.

I love AOC as a politician, as she is both honest, and not afraid to confront others, when their truth is weak. I expect great things from her in the future, once she learns to moderate her temperature, so that more can be accomplished, in a negotiation situation.

She is doing much better on that in this last year or two, so I expect eventually that she will have that skill mastered.

I agree with Representative AOC….I feel bad for Marjorie Taylor Greene trying to go into a women’s bathroom…that must be tough.

I lived in the dorms at UCSC in the mid eighties. Our bathrooms were open to all. There were plenty of stalls and no urinals. The showers had doors. Guess what? We all managed to survive!

Why is this even a thing of importance???? For God's sake isn't it time Americans start to discuss the important issues needed to help, like stopping a dictator????

AOC is spot on as usual!! No one needs their permission to exist.

Where will it stop? Will there be separate bathrooms for women of color because *some* women don’t feel comfortable?
