In the Dutch State Translation (centuries old) "deny yourself" is "verloochen uzelf." "Verloochen" means "Abnegate" and "Disown." No longer believe you are who you seem to be.

I think the two selves are 1) The Will
2) The emotions
When we deny ourselves we are saying "no" to our fleshly desires which feel good, but allowing our will which is like the rudder of our vessel to override those natural urges and to take charge and say "yes" I WILL deny myself. Sometimes we fail as the spirit is willing...but the flesh is weak....We are at war with these two urges and and really, our flesh must be crucified as with Jesus....He gives us the grace to live in victory and every sacrifice brings glory to our awesome Lord...He is worth living for and worth dying for...

ok brothers and sisters, um im gonna keep this short, i picked up two hitch hikers and took them to south carolina (from north) these women clearly had drug abuse issues, and im pretty sure they were prostitutes, and one of them says she has night terrors, I told them both to pray before they go to bed, because i think there is a demonic connection, because i had things bothering me, and after watching steven bancarz (recently converted from new age) i prayed about them and it went away, so to make a long story short, please be willing to pray for Jessica and Kim, I don't know their last names, but The Lord does. Jessica and Kim, especially at night, well, just anytime, add them to your church prayer lists, spread their names on whatever links you go to, im going to do the same and get some sleep, drove a long way, Grace to you all.

Time point 3:20: When I look at the Greek for 'come after' & 'follow, ' they are not the same words. I think you misspoke.

The battle is between the outer man our evil natured flesh and our inner man which is Christ in us! Every one that God gave to Christ will come to him and he will lose none! God will help his sheep find HIM, they will search for him and find him! They will obey him! They will search for the truth and sift out the trash of religion!

This is an invitation from our blessed Lord Jesus the author of forgiveness and salvation to put off the old self and come to the cross by faith and live in the new life born again as a new creation in Christ". ( Mark 8:35 ) is the answer and remedy to ( Mark 8:34 ).
