My Amputation Story!

Fourteen years of pain and failed ankle surgeries brought me to 2018, when I made the difficult decision to become a twenty-seven-year-old below-the-knee elective amputee. This channel has documented my journey adjusting to life with a visible disability as an amputee, and continues to be a haven to discuss physical and mental health!

Overall you might end up being in less pain simply because you can take it off anywhere at any time. I hope this new system works for you!

That “build in weapon” now has me imagining an amputee getting in a fight and when things escalate that unlock their prosthetic to reveal their locking mechanism also doubles as a 2-foot long spear-sword and they start swinging kicks at them. Badass

Also, it can be used as an emergency wine glass.

I hate that you've had so many issues over this process, but I really appreciate you spelling out all of the pros and cons through all of the iterations.

I use a pin lock on my arm. You can get the pin surgically attached to your bone but I'm low-key scared to get it though

Damn Jo. Having a built in weapon at the end is boss! Don’t mess with Jo. Work smarter not hard.

Omg, a new superhero movie. Gritty and realistic, of course. Using the pin to fend off a group of local thugs, ironically leaving them each with one less limb in the process 🤔😮 Lmk if you're in. I'll speak to my producer friends!

I WAS AN A/K RIGHT LEG AMPUTEE SINCE 1971. WITHIN A FEW YEARS, I PULLED MY LEG ON AND OFF FOR LIKE 38 YEARS. HAVE TO SAY, THERE WAS NEVER A DAY WHEN I DIDNT FEEL PAIN AND DISCOMFORT WITH EVERY STEP. THAT THAT DOES NOT KILL YOU, MAKES YOU STRONGER. ITS NOT FAIR, BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS.😅😅😅

The jeans thing is actually pretty cool. I wear jeans all the time, I imagine it would be horrendous to deal with the previous version with jeans every day. Plus getting to wear jeans more easil now, you can deliberately hide the prosthetic to an extent on days you don't feel like answering questions and whatnot.

Thank you for your videos. It's been a year in the hospital when i lost my right leg, and 3 months since i lost my left leg. One above the knee and one below. I've learned more about the prosthetics process from you than my Dr.s. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing. This teaches a lot of us how prosthetics work without worrying about offending people who use them by asking questions.

waiting to pick up my pin lock, the best thing is for halloween is you can wear your foot backwards! 😂😂

OMG I know exactly what you mean. My first socket was a pin lock. I now have one with a sleeve. This one is much more comfortable. Actually feels like a part of my leg, but I do miss the ease of the pin lock.

Been an amputee since 2016 and used pin lock the entire time. I even worked as a prosthetic technician and i still think its the best, firstly its mechanical so its inherently waterproof, it doesnt need to be charged, i oil mine like once every few months by putting gun oil on my pin and running it in and out a few times so its low maintenance, they pretty much never fail. Its absolutely the best option specifically the ottobock pin lock systems are great because they dont stick out at all to get hung up on things. No sleeves to tear, less sweat, less stuff to do in general. Click in and it auto locks as your limb shrinks and you click in more. The perfect set up for a BK amputee is a socket with a revo system and a pin lock.

Imagine sitting with your friend who you didn't know was an amputee and suddenly she says "ohh, my leg's kinda sore" and you hear a click before seeing her leg come clean off, trying to process it before realizing it's a prosthetic.

Love my pin lock system. Keeps me safe and secure when I’m working as an iron worker building stairs and railings

I know it’s not the topic of the video at all, but your tattoos look AMAZING. full sleeves that include shoulder-chest pieces are so cool and the art in yours looks really, really awesome

Awww im so excited for you. So thankful you have healed to this point. I hope and pray this helps you and you have more realistic levels of pains and way more "good" days where your body can do more of what your mind wants to do than before the surgery. So grateful for science.
