I think if you're serious about music it can be worth it. You can produce, write and record your own songs. Which will save you a ton of money during the creative process and you won't have to split royalties/profits with anyone else. Or you can build your own studio and record songs for others and make money that way. It depends on your mind set, goals and drive.

What are your Thoughts ??? How did you learn to make music ???

I actually go to a university for music production and in some points, I agree with you but at the end, for me I would still say it was worth it. I taught myself the basics but I learned so much more stuff there and also gained practical experience with professional equipment and software. So If making music for a living won't work out for me, I can still do other jobs that have to do with music which wouldn't be possible without the skills I got from university or I just would not have thought of. If you compare my old tracks with the ones I make now there is a huge difference and I'm finally really close to the quality I am aiming for. If everything works out as planned, next year I will start working on my bachelor degree.

Dude you forgot the most important: in music school there is a house full of singers and songwriters... for example I'll study composition in university just for those contacts and next level melodies :D I also do the violin, piano, I dance and rap and i'm a dj ofc. I really believe that the future is owned by multitalents because there is so much people out there that can do good music but that's it.

This is the best advice I wish someone I “Trusted” would of told me when I first started learning to produce music, the sad part that was not mentioned here is that at the end of the day, Schools and Gear Manufactures including software makers are a Buisness and will do what ever it takes to make money, as a Buisness should, the problem that brings for us are, all the endless education online guiding us towards more gear and education and less time actually learning by way of self practice, so most, not all, will fall down the rabbit hole loop of feeling not ready or not well equipped, and that my friends is what destroys potential talent, listen to Jon, and pay attention to what he is telling us because it’s the truth, look at his projects simplicities and pay attention to how his end results “sounds” and that goes for everyone that you take serious advice from including schools, don’t waste your time learning from people or institutions that they themselves could use some extra education, listen critically to those you consider your mentors, especially “Sonically” before you dive head first, hence the fact that my favorite “Sounding” Artist does not teach their methods, they might do an overview (Thank you Deadmau5) but that’s about all you will get, an overview, from there it’s up to us to have the other dots in the puzzle ready for us to connect, also notice how schools will use only a handful of Alumni to promote their establishment, what? isn’t every student worthy of a showcase? Or did they failed the other 90% of students, long story short, Learn the basics and build your own art from there, don’t fall into the “am not educated enough” or the “I need that plug-in” to sound like that bullshit, spend 90% doing and 10% learning outside but make sure you don’t loose your creativity chasing that beautiful professional sound that takes a near perfect 1000 + calculations of production factors while making a great song,

Thank you Jon, for all that you do, also don’t worry about covering reverbs, I studied your Final Warning stems and began to fixed my track to get that last percentage that matters most, you are god sent, mad love!!!

I like music production schools because the teachers can tell me what's theoretically wrong. Not necessarily telling me directly WHAT TO DO, but rather some small tips and why they can benefit my project and future. And if it is "wrong", but works anyway, they can tell me why. I just like some advice now and then and some explanation of what I'm doing. I can still maintain my creative flow and it has really benefitted my production "quality".

You automatically hate anything somebody tries to teach you? Even Logic Pro X shortcuts?

I think that everyone learns in their own way. I learnt everything myself from playing guitar to piano and also music production. The key is to find your way to learn and if you enjoy what your doing the information will sink in. The downside with learning at school is they have a set curriculum and some subjects you don't have interest for but when you set your own plan of learning you can learn what's vital to yourself.

Plenty of info on the internet. A lot of it is just experience and being curious, trying to find out how things are made. If you know what you want to find out, you can totally find it on the internet. I watched loads of tutorials (SeamlessR, Au5, Image-Line, Virtual Riot and Multiplier were the most helpful people for me) and made tons of tracks, improving little by little with each one of them. It's a long process and you have to be patient.

Trial and error worked for me. Yeah it might take long but at least it's at a pace I'll understand. But school in general is expensive. Experience is key

I go to Full Sail University in orlando florida I graduate in dec with a bachlor of science degree it really helped me but I agree with you its all about the person you have to grind either route you take full sail also has perks like job placement assistance for the life time of your carrer.... as technology change you can always audit any class in your major for free thats some other things that pushed me there

A music degree is better than having no trade or no degree or no diploma. You got to build up in education or you'll stay behind in some way. Even if you make good money.

very clear NO from me. It's great for networking but other than that it's a gigantic waste of money.

In my opinion..it doesnt worth going there.. In those producing school.. I think they may teach you sound design, mixing & mastering...and could teach you to have full control over daw ..
Rest is only CREATIVITY that no one can teach you

You just say those things because your knowledge of music production is really good.Personally I think getting someone who can teach you how to mix music is the best thing you can do.That's what I did when I wanted to learn English. After six months of learning English I was amazed by the result .When it comes to music production I've seen plenty of tutorials on youtube, they taught me how to mix my tracks .When I finish my track in fl studio I'm really happy about the result but when I check it on a different computer it sounds completely different, I guess it has something to do with a sound card but the problem is the mix .I have a good sound card so my computer doesn't catch mistakes I make but when I play my track on a different computer my mistakes come out .It happens over and over again I'm sick and tired of it .That's why everyone should get their own teacher and learn the same way as I was learning English .I just have to sit down with someone and get a good explanation .I don't care about money, you should always invest in your skills and your future.

It would be grammatically correct to have no space between the end of the word and the questionmark?
