Dude the Mini website back in the early 2000s was the coolest website i'd ever been to. The mini flash game where you run and jump into a convertible lives in my head rent free.

The R53 doesn't have a French engine, the newer R56 has, it has a very temperamental and unreliable N14 peugeot turbo engine! I put a deposit on one and changed my mind about it and got a R53 instead! So the R53 has a chrysler/BMW motor made in Brazil!

I test drove a 2004 manual transmission it was remarkably quick and the gear and clutch felt nice although the clutch seemed like a very short travel

I recently put Bilstein B16 coilovers on my 2005. They have adjustable dampening/rebound and make the car much more comfortable. Not cheap... but if you plan on keeping the car. Also, R52 front strut braces really tame a lot of the rattles from the dash area. Have fun!

I own a 2004 S R53 with 66, 000 miles 😎. It's a Florida car and no rust. It has a six-speed manual transmission. I love the supercharger whine and it is fun to drive 😎. My Mini is a fun and practical car 😎. I also own a 1997 Mazda Miata with a 1.6-liter engine with the 5-speed manual transmission.

You've done a great job summarizing what makes the R53 such a good driver's car! I had a 2004 Cooper S JCW. The smiles per dollar of that car could not be beat. I've since moved on the noticeably less fun but slightly larger and more practical Honda Fit.

I love mine, they are just an addiction once youve driven one. I went all in when presented with the choice of a r53 or a r53 JCW, i couldnt afford to not take the jcw. Happy driving in the smile machine and I hope you get it where you want it oem+ is where it should be.

One thing to point out. I have a 2006 Mini Cooper S Automatic. it is the base models that have the huge issue with the automatics as they are CVT transmissions and not the Asin Warner 6 speed automatics that you also see in a lot of other cars, like VW Jettas, etc. Glad to see videos on Mini Gen 1, they are getting harder to find.

I have an 05 R52 S with a manual transmission and I love this car!! Red with chrome trim and I want to get polished wheels Most people black out the chrome, but I love it.

That vibration definitely coming from engine mounts, maybe previous owner installed aftermarket ones.
