We often hear people ask how they could get a job being a professional tree planter. Other than volunteering for local reforestation projects, you could get a seasonal job with a contracting company that hires professional tree planters to live and plant trees in remote areas for months at a time. But be careful what you wish for! This is hard work.

Tree planters usually wake up before 5am and work hard doing repetitive physical work while completely exposed to the elements - all alone on their individual blocks of land - for hours. Many describe injuries, exhaustion, and longing for their family and friends. But the rewards are definitely there too! Professional tree planters get paid based on the number of trees they plant, so there is not only a financial incentive to work hard and plant as many trees as possible but also a somewhat fun competitive element where tree planters strive to be the top tree planter among their peers.

The average professional tree planter can plant about 2-3K trees per day, but some of the best can plant up to 5K trees per day, those tree planters are called "highballers!" This video documents the experience of one crew in Quebec in 2018.

I so appreciate this! I’m leaving the Netherlands because of lack of nature and space. Here you’re not able to replant anything. Only authorities can do it, otherwise they can cut everything down. Silviculturist here too in NZ. Been doing planting, spraying, pruning for 4 years now. 3 weeks total in tree falling, my crew has 1mil to plant during the winter this season, probably planted roughly around 300k-400k so far since May.

Hello from Germany its interesting to see how you plant . As a professional forrester (i hope its the correct Name for my job) i plant a lot of plants but its so diffrent your plants are Container plants so we call them in Germany but we plant naked roots plants without Mineral soil. Now i have buy some of these Bushpro planting spades an i will try to use them for the naked root plants. Thank you for the Video and stay healthy an keep on planting. Björn

Planted for Canadian Tree Planters in 1987, may to September. Bare root stock and container stock got 8 cents a tree . Some of land was so difficult the boss/ owner turned it down. We were in the Longlac and Manitouwadge .The working condition were ok.The living conditions were terrible.Very happy to the work carrying on.🍻

As someone who has planted over 100k trees in the years ive planted, im just shocked that people dont use the pottiputki. Great invention (been around for like 40 years) and saves your back from using a SHOVEL.

I did this for 5 years in Northern Ontario.Hard work but you should sed the forest now.Shevis right between the horseflies deer flies mosquitoes and the dreaded Blackflies...you could see how people went nutz in the bush.Talking to yourself just to pre occupy the mind from sound of the bugs.lol
