Went to a wedding a couple weekends ago and my wife’s cousin and her husband were there (big oil millionaires), and he was wearing his Rolex Sea Dweller. Made a comment about liking the Sea Dweller while I was wearing a Dan Henry 1962. He mentioned that he liked my watch, though he thought it was an Omega. Told him what it was and still commented on it looking nice. Similar story as I was wearing my Cronos sub homage and my other wealthy cousin was wearing his actual submariner. We ended up comparing the two and talking watches all evening.

I think the watch snobbery thing is really just online for the most part. You meet people in person that are into watches and most of the time they just want to talk watches with you.

Well said. I know in the past, in online watch communities there was this certain subset of people who would look down on those who wore 'cheaper' watches but like you said they mostly came off as dicks anyway. In more recent years I've found that the watch loving community in general has been more appreciative of budget brands and microbrands.

Love the sentiment Jody. I completely agree. To me the only exception is someone who's bought a DW or Michael Kors and the like. Instead of looking down on them though, I try to take a moment to educate them on how they could spend the same amount of money for a much better watch next time. To me, the brands like DW are taking advantage of people's ignorance, and the best way to combat that is through education.

This is exactly why I have unsubscribed from certain high profile watch channels. To make bad comments about the owners of watches like Invicta & homage swatches. This channel and a few others have never insulted the owners of the brands that they don't like.
