Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller "The Thing," paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they're infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.

When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

"The Thing" serves as a prelude to John Carpenter's classic 1982 film of the same name.

They really did their homework on this movie. I just like how they got even some of the little details like the axe in the wall.

CGI, no matter how good it gets, will never compare to the visceral original.

It was pretty good for a modern prequel, even with the obvious flaws people constantly points out.
The CGI wasn't that bad and it allmost tricked me to believe that they were actually using Animatronics which ''sort of'' gave me a nostalgic feel to it.

And thanks to the ending it reminded me to watch the old one again. And i love that

@snake2006 Not to mention splitface in this movie had 4 eyes in total and looked like a crab to an extent. While the original looked as though his face had melted down, it only had 2 eyes. His neck was also long and contorted.

I've seen in and after watching it I saw the Helicopter and lars with the dog making a run for it and the story line is connected.

I enjoyed it, it is a good lead into Carpenters The Thing and obviously we know how this film ends but it is a good movie.

Considering most of the shit I've seen come out of Hollywood in last few years they over-hyped, I would say this movie was damn good. I liked it even though it was a little slow in a few spots. Generally, I don't like much when it comes to new movies, so coming from me saying it was pretty good is saying a lot for it.

loved the original and all the weird creatures the old film was very good for the year it came out for the affects but really freeky and made my skin crawl just think what they are going 2 be like with development of robot things lol do not know the name of what it is called love the bit in the old one where the guy gets his arms bitten off think it will look more realistic THINK IS IS GOING 2 BE GOOD :DDD

compared to the Carpenter version, the overall movie-making of the prequel was just bad. On its own, the prequel is pretty good, but that's a hard thing to consider when it comes in the shadow of John Carpenter's mastery.

you know at first i thought the part at 0:13 was actually gonna be the thing forming into the one of its victoms. but it turns out it was reversed and the hand was coming off. lol. who else thought the thing was gonna form into a human.

apart from in the original film the noregons blow the ice away from the ship using detenators in the pregual they dont the ship melts the ice at the end so they got that wrong
