Great review! I picked up the V1 when it was on clearance, but by the time I replaced the motor and ESC, I spent as much as the V2. I've found the truck to be a bit more fragile than I'd like, and with that new high power Hobbywing setup, the higher speeds will result in even more breakage. But, at this low price, it's still a very fun truck!

Vas, not a big fan of this kit but a huge fan of the new format. Really enjoyed all aspects of the unboxing, speed run, test run and final review. If I had to critique one item, I would recommend a mic on the fpv speed run segment. I know that is easier said than done due to setup limitations. I always love to hear your commentary during these moments and felt that was lost but nonetheless I enjoyed it. Great work! Continue to inspire us and I really enjoy how you continue to evolve the channel.

I just got mine today. First battery pack in it took a very moderate tumble on grass and the spare tire along with part of the cage tore clean off the rest of the cage. The cage is definitely a weak point for the car. I'm actually afraid to do any sort of jumps or hit bumps in uneven terrain for fear of breaking more pieces off the cage. I JB welded the spare tire mount back to the cage and it seems to be good for now. On the plus side, the car handles great, very predictable and a good amount of power. The battery straps are also a huge pain when using taller hard case packs. Still love the bugger though but I'll keep it on 2S.

Really liked this format. The video is a bit long, however everything is covered all at once. I think for something like this that is perfect 👍👍

I have one of these I run only on 3S and it's rapped. No gear troubles yet although the cheap plastic parts like to snap. Upgrade cheap plastic parts to metal/aluminium and it's a rugged little car.
I'm trying to find a roll cage upgrade atm with no joy. The plastic original roll cage is brittle and I'm fed up of replacing it lol.

I love my v1 even though it spends more time sitting on my bench needing repairs than out running. It runs great with a Traxxas VXL system on 2s, front A-Arm/hinge pin holder are weak so stock spares, I ended up ordering an aluminum front hinge pin holder for the FTX carnage (same car as this) and kept the arms plastic. I haven't had issues with the spur gear but I got the same sound in Vas's video that he didn't like, thats one of the diff getting stripped... Mine eventually caved, the diffs are cheap but rarely available in the US warehouse. The lack of tire glue is a problem, I didn't shred mine like Vas, but sand and grits end up getting into the tires making them unbalanced which is as bad as the tires completely ripping off. Bad battery tray, v2 one looks even worse. Cage is brittle and will break on you and they are not cheap to replace and US stock is an issue. Even with all the above problems I still love the way this buggy looks and drives!

I have one and at first, it was not reliable like the drive train wore out very fast and it was so powerful that the wheels fell off but after I put some better parts on it it is a really decent car.

Goes well on 3S out the box.

I have a slight upgrade of a 150A 1/8th scale esc capable of 6S going in it. I wonder what's going to break first? My money is on the motor burning out.

The cage is a pain as it keeps snapping, as does the lower suspension arms and holders. Have alloy sup arms and holders but cant acquire an alloy cage..

At the moment it's all good to go with new esc but the cage is smashed so can't drive it which is normally the case lol

I bet the initial delay is hobbyking turning the punch way down in order to try to make the drivetrain last a few minutes on 3s. I wonder what that horrific grinding noise that was there nearly the whole time was....

The roll cage breaking so easily is definitely something to address. Price point, considering you still have to purchase a radio, is not that far from entry level Traxxas or ARRMA cars (at least in USA / Europe as far as I can see) and those comes with much stronger plastic / structure.

The delay is typical of the Quicrun ESC. I also have it in my original (not rebranded) Hobbywing Quicrun. However changing the punch setting with the program card can mitigate it a lot. I use the quicrun on my LRP S10 Short Course and I keep the punch at two. It looks quite realistic, gives a lot of control and it's not hard on the drivetrain (which is not the best for LRP trucks, same differential as the desert fox or the vandal or zd racing S cars as far as I can tell). Still have plenty to do donuts at will.

I want a desert style buggy for my collection, but still not sure which one to go for, and a solid axle rig as well, nice and informative.

Great review Vas! Looks like they have addressed the issues from v1, nice! I do t see the info for this rig in the description, but u did give the price n that’s what I was wondering about, around $150 US that’s not bad at all for this rig, but the way this thing looks after one run with u, looks like it’s been threw a explosion lol!

The Helion Rock Rider has the same issue with acceleration lag. I'm not sure if that can be tweaked or if it would need a better ESC...

I had a HK Desert Fox V2. Now it's not much like the desert fox at all.
The stock wheels are rubbish! Way too soft for the speeds this thing does. Ftx carnage wheels are a decent upgrade as they're slightly harder, wider and taller. Much better grip on and off road. On the rear I've put aluminium suspension arms off the ftx carnage but installed them upside down (modification needed) and moved the suspension in front of the arm instead of the back. This toes the angle of the tyre out and this was my plan because I noticed, when turning at speed the back the back wheel grips and flips the car sideways with the arms the correct way.

I set loads of camber on the front and back to eliminate having a negative camber when cornering. Now it skids/drifts and is much harder to flip sideways but it's a little twichy lol keeps me on my toes but what a machine!

Replaced the standard motor with a Goolrc 4370KV (9T) motor but haven't tested it yet. May have to change the gearing? Time will tell.

Ultimately I'm looking for a 6S motor with reasonably high KV rate as I have a 6S, 150A ESC for 1/8th scale.
Insane overkill for power I know but it's my goal.
Any recommendations guys?
