I put up a 53ft long wire antenna and loved it. I bought an MLA-30 and loved it. Then I bought a Youloop antenna and loved it also.

Then I realized something: If you are lucky enough to have an SDRPlay RSPDx, then you can have all 3 hooked up at the same time. When you are trying to tune a very weak signal, you can switch between the 3 and see which works better on that particular signal at that particular time.

I've been amazed at how well that noisy long wire antenna has outperformed the loop antennas. And vice versa. Sometimes the active MLA-30 works better than the passive YouLoop. Sometimes it doesn't.

In other words: Do not give up on any antenna. It will sometimes work better than others. The more options you have, the better.

2019 is the year of the MLA - 30. It was just what I was looking for when I resurrected my Shortwave radio this summer. I found this YouTube channel, and learned so much so fast. MLA-30 IS THE BEST AM antenna I’ve ever seen.
Shortwave has also been a real winner as well. The combination of price and performance makes it a no brainer to at least try on your setup. I’m in the suburbs of Philly so noise is a problem here. Thank you to the entire group for the education!

I got my MLA-30 this summer. With the supplied 60 cm loop, it is useless below 10 MHz. I built a 6 foot diameter loop with PVC supports and the MLA-30 is AMAZING on AM broadcast band now. Inside the gray box is a potentiometer that controls the gain. Depending on your radio, you may need to turn down the gain with the 6 foot loop to prevent overload.

I have the MLA-30+. Use it inside my house at my loft. My other antenna's (miniwhip, magn. turnable and tunable active antenna, dipole whip and a longwire) are placed outside above my roof. In the most bands this cheap loop give a much better signal, sometimes with a higher noisefloor, but I can hear stations I do not hear with the other antennas. Outstanding performance. Did the cable mod and replaced the bias tee. The voltage pump in the original bias tee was much to noisy. Very good antenna especially in the longwave band. Great value

I tried a wind-up SW antenna from Amazon today, and it didn't quite work out, the signals on my SDR v3 are still weak, though I notice signal peaks, and could hear some stuff from CW bands and some little peaks in the 10 MHz band. My dad is a ham and he told me that the best option would be a long wire, though he told me it isn't practical in an apartment setting. With my standard mag mount, I get some weird FM bleeding into the SW channels in the 20 MHz area, though no dice for WWV between 10-15 MHz. I ordered this one just today and hoping that the amp on it will help get the signals out. I will be mounting it on my window with a plastic suction cup hook that a wreath is on and remove it and put it away when it's not in use. One of these days when I am a homeowner I will be able to use a long wire instead. :)

You also can take the screws off the two boxes of the small screwdriver and they got fine tune that you can find too even better

Question for you! I have no antenna jack on my radio. How do i clip the MLA-30 to my whip antenna? Do i clip to center conductor of coax and then to whip antenna in order for it to work properly? Thank you for your time!

QUESTION: All loop antennas that I see in Youtube videos need to be tuned to the reception frequency very accurately. How can this work when it isn't?

What if....I have an application that uses (2) antennas in a phasing arrangement with (2) inputs both having desktop gain control.... How about putting 2 of these one above the other at how these report to have some directional ability for a lot of horizontal separation is small....
