Why the Stewards got the big calls right at Monza

The Autosport team evaluates the decisions made by the stewards for the two high-profile incidents at the Italian Grand Prix, explaining why they were right to issue no action for Lewis Hamilton's and Sebastian Vettel's collision on the opening lap, and why Max Verstappen deserved the penalty that upset him so much after his contact with Valtteri Bottas.

It's shame that stewards are so shamelessly biased towards Mercedes. If Bottas can't pass Max of his own with more superior car so stewards will do for him. Max is right it's killing the sport for sure.

I agree with the call on Verstappen, but all these peope hating on him is something I don't get. If Verstappen was about 5mm more to the right it would be fine. Also about 10 years ago the same incident happened and no further action was taken (rules changed since then).

Why are these guys talking about a 'bigger picture'? Like Red Bull has any chance to not get 3th.

What's that diecast? 1/10 scale and who manufacturers?

Vettel did the same thing at the Mexico GP last year. Only difference is that Hamilton was farther ahead and he hit his tire instead of the side of the car.

The Redbull management has a serious problem. This is not the first time we've seen one of their drivers completely disrespecting/defying the team and what's best for the team....Verstappen didn't care a hoot about his team losing out a couple of points as long as his ego was satisfied. Same goes for Vettel and Multi-21 in his BOSS calling him off, he went ahead and risked 43 points for the team just for his own satisfaction.

One has to conclude the management is to blame for this sort of repeated attitude from their drivers.

All in all, Verstappen had a great race risking a lot every corner of the race to stay ahead of Bottas. He was great. There was not a car’s width but that was marginal. Let’s not forget Bottas could’ve avoided by braking a little harder because they hit when Verstappen was moving right to take the corner and only rear wheels touched. Penalty was correct but it was so marginal.

Ben:

5:30 Verstappen rival LH for race craft? WTH? For wet weather racing maybe. MV rivals Maldonaldo for incidents.

7:05 Bottas did not drive into MV's wheel. WTH?

7:12 MV still weaves under braking, not just in 2016, see Baku 2018. it's not even a 1 off for 2018.

Suggest Andrew and Ben to have a close look again @F1 (birds eye angle) how Bottas misjudged the take over opportunity and then ran into Verstappen who just left enough room (like Hamilton did with Vettel) on the track. He should not leave one mm more is it, as I believe this sport is about competing on the edge, not about office clercqs judging if it’s all decent, mature and other useless comments. We would like to see real battles, like Verstappen, Hamilton and Vettel bring them. And it’s very obvious why Andrew isn’t part of the Red Bull team management, and never will be. He could have been a pious pastor though, boring his audience every week with a very decent sermon.

Spot on boys. Verstappen will not win a championship whilst he drives the way he does.

How about Lewis at exactly the same spot in 2021?

Verstappen is Redbull's biggest misjudgment of character ever. Good talent, but that alone is not sufficient. They will regret Ricciardo's exit.

If Max penalty is a right call, why not being mad about ALL the other insidens without penalty. Like last year Massa and Stroll ? Why not mentioning the points on his race licence. Or why not say how many rounds Bottas was driving behind Verstappen and tell your adiance that Bottas was just desperate. In Football they call this a "Swalbe".

so three Brits side with Hamilton... who would have thought??!?!?

There is a contradiction at five minutes 14 seconds in your video. Look at the way Louis merged into the Best line out of the pits. Absolutely disgusting! However you show nearly the same thing the happening to Lewis there was no penalty. That's actually where the problem started. I think you guys got it totally wrong

Personally I loved Max's reaction. "Fuck it, I don't care if a lose time to Vettel. Suck my balls FIA. Enjoy the view from behind me Bottas."

I dont bet why good defending is ruining sport i want to see a driver do everything possible to stop getting overtaken aslong as it is fair.
