NASA | Studying the Solar Wind on Mars

Robert Lin, the late director of the Space Sciences Laboratory, discusses how NASA's MAVEN spacecraft will study the interaction of the Martian atmosphere with the solar wind. MAVEN's findings will reveal how Mars lost its early atmosphere, turning it from a warm, wet planet into the cold, dry one that we see today.

Have to say, i would be more impressed if they could Terraform a small section of the moon, as an international effort..Space seems to be the only place where nations can come together for a peaceful venture that will progress our species and secure its future!!!!

I think this all confusing because Mars does not have the mass to create a gravitational force to hold onto a oxygen atmosphere which would be required to have liquid water. Which leaves me with the question of how long does it take for the solar wing to strip a low gravity planet of it's oxygen atmosphere? If a planet does not have a magnetic shield to protect it's atmosphere, and does not have enough mass for a strong enough gradational field, the atmosphere dissipates into space and the water, if liquefied, also evaporates into space.  So, is the ice that is supposedly on Mars polar regions, wet water ice or dry ice?

God rest his soul. Maybe now he has a better view and understanding  from up above ;) . Will shed more LIGHT on the human race. Unfortunately he wasn't able to observe from earths point of view...

I get science and it's good to prove theories. But this seems as a waist. I respect these scientists. And I'm sorry for my words as I'm not very nice at times. I just wanted to throw that out there.
