Most maps calculations were done in game.
For some of the older games I used info from this Forum (and measured them eventually and they are accurate) where you can see detailed comparisons from almost every map in the games.

It’s crazy that some of the “small” islands in AC Odyssey is basically the size of AC Unity or Syndicate maps.

Unity felt so big because of how dense it was

I think the more dense and contained maps (e.g: Unity, and Syndicate) were more enjoyable because they enhanced the parkour and stealth elements a lot better. I genuinely appreciate all of the work that goes into the larger maps in Odyssey and Valhalla, but, eventually, exploring felt tedious.

I don’t get why people hate large maps. I love them because you feel like your traveling an actual country instead of a limited box

Valhalla looked small on this comparison but then I remembered that it only showed England and doesn’t take into account Norway nor Asgard, plus we have no DLC maps yet so Valhalla could be bigger then it seems.
