Toyota Auris Hybrid Review - Auto Express

It's priced competitively against 2.0-litre diesel rivals, and offers a different hybrid proposition to the Prius, mainly because it looks like a normal car. Just like its stablemate, the Auris is great around town. But the familiar hybrid foibles remain, with a harsh note under acceleration and average economy. So on the motorway, good though the newcomer is, we'd still recommend a diesel instead.

Its achievable. Ive averaged 86mpg but it does take alot of work. But with steady normal driving 60mpg is easily done. What other automatic can get that around town?

So far, this is the best looking hybrid. Don't compare it with a prius please. That's a family car, just like the Honda insight or the Honda Civic. It has a automatic gearbox and is more luxuriously equipped than the prius for that same money. The Honda CR-Z comes close, but is not as practical.

My next company car will most likely be this Auris. Now i only need to convice Toyota to offer better colors instead of the predictable and boring black, blue and silver;-)

So in short, it's not viable for anyone who doesn't already live in the city. Like all hybrids.

Smoothness of acceleration and braking is key to economy in ANY CAR TOYORETARDA, NOT just hybrids. Seriously. 

I can granny my 3.3L V6 dodge caravan and get an extra 70 miles out of a tank of petrol, if i want to be cut off, honked at, and generally roadraged the whole drive.

All these so called Hybrid cars are just bollocks. The normal 1.6L version is as good as it gets.

You have to drive like Miss Daisy, in and around built up city, and take abuse from other frustrated drivers.
