Full Episode - Underwater Fishing

While in the water filming marlin feeding, Matt has an idea on how he can ‘catch’ one while still in the water. He act’s immediately and adapts a spear gun with a piece of broomstick, it works and results in fish that are tagged and released underwater. As the idea evolves over several months, it’s used inshore, on all kinds of fish, including snapper and kingfish. Some fish are taken for dinner and others are tagged and released underwater, in a way that could revolutionise fish research.

Such an amazing idea bro! I love how the fish aren’t bothered after being tagged under water - that for me is the real selling point and also the not for profit aspect but to help look after our fisheries, blimin kiwis - what will we think of next?!

The boat Matt was on used to be called the Paris Star before it was used as a charter it worked as salmon boat in South Australia and.... My dad used to work on it in the early 90s after that it was taken to Tasmania to be used as a tuna boat but wasn't that successful I'm not sure what happened after that but we saw this episode last week and after a bit of research we worked out that it had been driven over to New Zealand and repurposed as a charter boat. Oh and one more thing GO THE AUSSIES!!!!
