Aug. 9 -- Uber found out what many other U.S. tech companies realized long ago: China is an alluring trap. Most American web companies including Google, Facebook and Amazon are either banned from China or have flopped there. And their odds of success are only getting slimmer. Bloomberg Gadfly's Shira Ovide explains why it might be time for U.S. web companies to permanently give up on China.

WeChat in China is a immensely complex ecosystem. More so than any app in the US.

I just do not agree that Wechat copies Facebook, actually there is no app in the west like wechat.

Everyone's losing their shit because they don't comprehend the video and instantly think it's anti-China. I guess I can understand the complaint about the map being messed up, but still -- every Western media or person that makes a video about China that has a criticizing it in the slightest instantly gets bombarded by "patriots." Lmao

Don't expect Bloomberg to not get the maps right of one of the largest economies of the world. That too when the area has been a topic of discussion over decades.

US luxury companies have done well in China. Qualcomm and Intel chips powers most flagship Chinese devices.

Chinese software tech market is extremely cut throat. A Silicon Valley or Corp Valley business model is doomed from the start.
Your going to have deal 100s of forms of sabotage.

Tech dotcom should focus on smaller Chinese areas

What a miserably wrong map at 0:20... Bloomberg kindly be sensitive to the border disputes between two of the largest countries in the world, especially when the tensions are so high ... Also the shows parts of Pakistan(Occupied Kashmir) as part of China!? China has never made claims to those lands... Your cartographer needs help!

on 17th second of video. map shows indian state of jammu & kashmir to be part of china. Bloomberg should first be careful of world map and learn to put videos on other topics.
