Emergency call function: malfunction! Function unavailable. Please contact Service

If you've encountered the Audi SOS error, what was the fix? I just encountered the Audi SOS error on my 2020 Audi A4 and am not thrilled. I pressed the volume button on the steering wheel for many seconds but that did not resolve the issue. I also held the "SOS" button for about a minute but that did not resolve the issue either. The Audi SOS error comes and goes. Unfortunately, it makes an annoying alarm sound whenever it reappears. Also, when I call people via my car's bluetooth, I can hear the person that I'm speaking with but they cannot hear me. Also, the Audi App no longer functions. I'm unable to view vehicle status, vehicle location or unlock the doors via the app. This is very frustrating and I purchased the base model Audi intentionally to avoid all of the electronic gadgets that could break. #Audi #SOS

It happened to me today as I was picking my car from Audi dealer. What happens is that the control module gets stuck and doesn’t wake up when you turn the ignition. In order to fix it they have to update the software of the control module which takes approximately 48 hrs. So my car is going back and it will be fixed under warranty as it’s a malfunction of their module.

I got the same message on my 2023 (yes, ‘23) Q5 today. 2 days after picking it up. It actually called the service & the mic in the car didn’t work. Awkward, but I’ll be bringing it to get serviced tomorrow. I’ll keep you updated on what they say.

Would love an update on this, just got this issue with my 2019 a4 and it seems to be almost every cold start that message pops up, then turns off after I turn off my car and turn it back on at atleast 140f oil temp

I've only had mine a little over 2 months and did not notice this issue until I had my car inspected last week. I have not gotten the beeping sound. This definitely will be looked into.

I have a 2021 Q5 rental and it started doing it a couple days in, which is why I'm here because it is annoying more than anything, even knowing I'll only have the car for a short time

I am not sure which year or models this impacts but I also have an SOS error. Audi dealer said it is part of a recall so I could elect to have them disable the message or do a retro fix. They advised the root cause is because the SOS SIM is 3G AT&T and AT&T turned off their 3G service. The fix is Audi will provide a device that gets plugged into the car dataport (OBD) that then syncs with the Audi Motion App you install on your phone. I had to make a decision then and there or forfeit the fix. I took the fix but looking into it now and may decide against it. Seems like a cheap fix to the problem and I am not sure if the SOS button would even work on the car after. I think you have to use the app at that point.

Just happened to me on my 2022 Audi Q3 too - seems like I gotta take it to the dealership for electronic problems again

I know certain years of Volkswagens had their Emergency Call Systems disabled because they were running on 3G celular service which is no longer getting supported by the network companies. Yours being a 2020 might not be affected since is too new (mine is a 2019 Golf R and is not) but maybe is worth checking with the dealer to see if is related to this change.

You should just take it to the dealership and let them deal with it: I’m sure it’ll be covered under warranty and any decent dealership should give you a loaner car for the time being.

Open the sos latch and press and hold the red button for 30 to 60 seconds, it will them make an emergency call, just cancel it, and all should be ok

I had the same issue with my 2019 A5. I just reset my mmi to factory settings. It went away. Give that a shot.

That's why you buy a BMW haha, I've had 2 BMWs so far (own two currently) and my dad has had dozens throughout his life. Very minimal issues at most, nothing major. I have heard tons of people complain about their modern Audi (and Mercedes) cars. Best of luck!

And my guess is there may be some sort of software update to fix this issue. You could even try disconnecting the battery to reset the computers.

Same issue in my 2020 Q7. Super annoying on my recent 1500 mile road trip. Since moving, the nearest Audi dealership is 100 miles away. This makes getting my car serviced a day trip. Might be time to switch.
