Kathy Troccoli - Knowing You (All I Once Held Dear)

A nice version of the classic P&W song "Knowing You", written by Graham Kendrick. This is Kathy Troccoli's tender rendition. I guess many people don't realize that the words of this song are a paraphrase of Paul's words in Philippians 3:7-11. Paul had a wonderful way of putting everything into perspective, and this song is a prime example of that.

I love this. It has blessed me today more than you can know.. I had found it by a friend's recommendation and put it on my email in readiness to send to my Bible study group. The enemy attacked for my faith today through someone I love. In sorrow I turned on my computer and there it was! It lifted my heart and soul to the One who is" my all, my rest, my joy, my righteousness." He is the best, the best thing in all my life God bless you for sharing this beautiful song. Bob, a LOVELY soothing peaceful tune, Kathy's voice is enchanting, & her piano solo. Maybe because I am Bipolar, it was difficult for me to listen to piano solo & try to read the Bible words @ same time. I lost the words, but will try again later.

How true and powerful that passage is for me right now--the "surpassing value" of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, the fellowship of His sufferings, the power of His resurrection, and the righteousness God gives us on the basis of the faith He also gives--what a gracious God! God bless you, @Shary. Yes, this song is a real blessing. I'm glad that my video touched you. Actually it's not "my" video, it's due to the apostle Paul, and in turn to God, who inspired the words of Philippians 3:7-11. Yes, knowing You, Jesus, there is no greater thing.

@STEPHENAUBREYdotcom I agree with you stephenaubreydotcom. When my worship team sings this song the peak of the song is that rollover near the end where "you're my all, you're the best, you're my joy!" is repeated. It's hard not to burst into a smile during that part of the song. True, Jesus is our rest, but the phrase just doesn't fit with what Paul was trying to convey. He was exulting and proclaiming the power of God, not resting.

@mrshenmac I'm not sure why Kathy changed it from "you're the best" to "you're my rest". The only thing I can guess is that the rest of the song is a paraphrase of the Bible (Philippians 3:7-11), and "you're the best" is sort of a modern phrase. Perhaps she thought it didn't quite sound right. Sounds OK to me!

@semajgnik I disagree. "youre the best" is like what a happy lil kid would say to mom/dad. It brought such a fitting enthusiasm to the song (&repeated often in the chorus). We hear "youre my rest" a lot; its good, but means something so different than "youre the best, " which is way more fitting to the song's main msg: a deep cry of wanting to know God more because he is SO good..so good that u dont know how to express it without saying simply, youre the best...the best thing i could possibly have
