Maui fire: At least 6 dead in Hawaii, mayor says | LiveNOW from FOX

Hawaiian officials say six people are confirmed dead and at least two dozen others injured due to the wildfires on the Island of Maui.

Fire was widespread in Lahaina Town, including on Front Street, a popular shopping and dining area.

The influence of Hurricane Dora to the south of the islands and a strong ridge of high pressure to the north is also fueling the dangerous wildfires.

I’ve been to Hawaii once in my life. It was a magical time there. I am devastated for the peoples and all the losses caused for Maui. I pray that somehow the banyan tree that takes up an entire block will survive and return to it’s magnificent glory. What I am thinking is that each island surrounded by water should have desalination plants so that water would be readily available for just this type of disaster. The water is there. It just seems unreal that fire could take them. I’m filled with sorrow and pray for all involved, from the residents and firefighters and beloved animals and pets.

I'm so sorry for the people of Maui and all of Hawaii for having to go thru devastating fires. I know what it's like. I live in the very dry southwest AZ. We fear them.
