When he said “that’s actually a mistake” you could hear the genuine compassion and worry in his voice

It's like putting too much sugar in the cookies... so is compassion... it rots the relationships.

I read that in the early 70s in a book about Findhorn the community in Scotland: you want both love AND truth, one alone may be self destructive

I understand this as being the difference between moms and dads. When our son was young, my wife (and my mother, too!) sometimes thought I was being too hard on our son. I explained to both of them that if I don't criticize them for being too compassionate (as moms), they can't criticize me for being too strict (as a dad). Obviously, this doesn't apply to abusive dads, but it does apply to dads who are trying to raise strong, God-fearing husbands and fathers.

I really like your wisdom on health, mind and soul, and often disagree with you on social and political topics. Most of all, I love your refusal to engage in the oversimplification of complex issues and your deep thought process. This short video is also spot-on.
Being true to myself is paramount: actively doing the work to not have conflict in my inner sacred space. This subconsciously slowly slips away in everyday life and then I notice that I am more mentally present in the affairs of others and feel a bit lonely. Time to turn inward for some good old self-talk until I feel whole again. The compassion that comes from that state of being comes with natural boundaries and respect for the paths of others.

This man is a legend. Always shaking us up. No established ideas are safe with him. I love this. Thanks Dr!

I used to farm, and in my first year I over-watered some starter tomatoes thinking I was helping them. The older, very wise and patient owner of the farm simply said, "You know, a lot of plants have been killed with too much love."
Turns out, they need dry times to establish roots.
That man taught me a lot.

Actual kindness and compassion and truthfulness can be be both difficult to say and to hard to hear. The truth does not always feel comfortable.

Being too compassionate is avoidance. Its actually hurting the person more, as tolerating or acceptance of destructive behavior is damaging to all.

A knowing-co-dependency is that: it does not assist the other person is solving the issue, but helps to perpetuate the dysfunctional.

Peterson understands the Word to a far greater degree than he even realizes. Law without love = death and Love without law = death. Righteousness should not be swayed by your love, as it will lead to a true showing of love that expands greater than your own breadth. People who will hide a family member who is a murdere due to their love for them.

If you let people off the hook they might continue to take advantage of your kindness.

My dad was like this. He could never say no and people took advantage of his good heart.
