GE Healthcare’s Critical Care Suite is designed to quickly identify and help prioritise critical cases such as Pneumothorax.

GE Healthcare X-ray has developed a pneumothorax AI detection algorithm for frontal chest x-rays (AP & PA), which will be first deployed onto the Optima XR240amx portable x-ray system as a software update, and later deployed onto GE fixed x-ray systems.

This has already been tested against radiologists and they know that it works to a certain degree. The idea was to bring that algorithm and to see what was the impact on the kind of frontline clinicians.

A lot of the imaging algorithms that are being developed at the moment are there to help the clinical staff, they’re not standalone diagnostic algorithms. And what we want to be able to show is when you give the algorithm output to the clinicians, it improves their practice. Now, chest x-rays are quite commonly acquired imaging and as a result, there's a large variety of people who have to look at these chest x-rays and interpret them, and we want to measure the impact of the algorithm on the performance of each one of these individuals.
